The DIVOTE team in Israel is busy throughout the year delivering different DIVOTE gifts and helping the families that have been affected by
acts of terrorism in various ways. The team keep in contact with as many families as possible and know when someone gets married or has
a baby or if they simply need to talk to someone who cares.
Photo 1:
Esther with her DIVOTE baby
bags and gifts. Her brother was badly
injured as a soldier when a terrorist
rammed his car into him. He has recovered
well and the whole family is very happy
about the birth of Esther’s child.
2:
Leah with her wedding gift. Leah’s
younger brother was killed in a car
ramming attack when he was on the way
to the Kottel.
3:
Shachar with his DIVOTE wedding
gift. His father was shot in a terrorist
attack, and fought with the terrorist to
apprehend him.

with love from someone in South Africa.
Her sister was killed in the truck ramming
attack that took place in Jerusalem in
January of this year. The family loved
their blankets and I look forward to
meeting them all when I’m in Israel soon
to distribute their gifts from the school
children in Johannesburg, and to tell them
all about the love and support that comes
from the South African community.
5:
One of our DIVOTE volunteers delivering
a backpack to a young man whose father
was injured very badly in a terrorist attack
last year. He got released from the Army
and sat at his father’s bedside for weeks
until his father sadly passed away. He
appreciated the fact that others thought
of him and cared. He said that the gifts
made him feel special and they gave him
strength.
6:
Adina holding her new grandson. With
her is her DIVOTE baby bag, filled with
gorgeous new clothing, toiletries and
toys. Adina’s husband was horrifically
injured in a terrorist attack with a meat
cleaver and he is healing.

During the first termof 2017, CameronWolfsohn ran a collection for PACT as part of the outreach programme that our High School students
participate in, as part of the President’s Award. PACT stands for Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment. It is a non-profit organisation dedicated
to providing care and treatment to animals in the Phoenix area of Durban. Cameron managed to collect over 100 animal food items and
R1000.00, through a raffle, for the organisation. Well done to JaceGreenstone, who brought themost items of food, as well as to Sivana Stout
for winning the raffle. Shkei’ach to Cameron on running such a successful drive.
The Grade 4 students ran a rehabilitation project this term where they reared several orphaned baby birds. The students learnt about the
different types of birds, as well as how to care for the birds and get them ready to re-enter thewild. Together with theGrade 5 class, they went
on an outing to the Riverside vet in order to hear a talk on birds by two resident vets. The sister gave thema talk on x-rays. The students then
did a practical where they looked at slides on amicroscope and stained the slides. They also set up drips in theatre as directed by the vet. This
was a wonderful opportunity for these students.
Tu B’Shvat was celebrated at Akiva College by replanting a tree which needed a new home. Students from Grade 1 and up then went on an
outing to visit the Dube Trade Centre, situated near the airport. They have a number of greenhouses in which they grow various vegetables
in controlled environments. The students learnt about how valuable this type of farming is. They had the opportunity to visit a greenhouse
growing cucumbers and to learn about how this type of farming works.
On Friday the 3rd of March we celebrated World Book day. All of the students were encouraged to dress up as characters from their favourite
books. During assembly each class paraded their array of colourful characters, and each child received a chocolate.
