On 16 September 2016 the South African
Jewish Ex-Service League convened a
most productive and enjoyable meeting
with lunch which took place at the Durban
Jewish Centre at which twelve members
attended.
At the meeting, it was decided that, apart
from the laying of wreaths as undertaken
by Neville Klein, that we would hold four
meetings per annum under the auspices of
our new Chairperson, Stan Hart. Sadly we
remembered our dear late Chairperson
Esmond Jacobson with one minute’s
silence.
One of the aims of the League is to
recognise our comrades and to spread
awareness of the important roles that
Jewish men and women played during
war time and conflicts situations. The South
African Jewish Ex-Service League is not only
for World War ll veterans, but is open to all
who served in armed forces on the South
African border and in Israel. We welcome
all new members.
Kindly contact the Chairperson Stan Hart
on 082 856 0060 or email him at
stan@hart.za.com
should you be interested
in joining.

IUA-UCF campaign
The SAJBD KZN Council launched the 2016-17 IUA-UCF campaign on Tuesday September 20th with a gala dinner at the Durban Jewish
Centre. The theme for the event was ‘We look after our own - from cradle to grave’. Speakers were SAJBD KZN President Jeremy
Droyman, UCF Chairman Michael Selikow and John Moshal (KZN Council Honorary Life President). A presentation from the “It’s Durban
Calling” project (launched in 2015 to create an online community of Jewish Durbanites worldwide) was screened. The keynote speaker
was Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela. The event was a resounding success with wonderful feedback. Thank you to all that
attended and contributed to this very worthy cause.
