The Umhlanga Jewish Centre hosted several food evenings this holiday period. The takeaway food evenings were immensely
popular, a huge yishar koach to Gary Plen, Brett Hummel and David Jacobson for their tremendous efforts in a most successful
project. Selma hosted another successful Kosher curry evening, Mazel tov to Liora Plen who celebrated her Bat Mitzvah on the
last Shabbat on 2016.
Daniel Meltz returned from two months in Israel on Bnei Akivas Kfar program. Daniel wrote a brief report back.
“Kfar was an amazing and memorable experience that I’ll never forget. I have made so many
close friendships and incredible memories. My connection to Hashem has strengthened from
all the learning and shiurim. On Kfar we made our own Tzitzit, learnt about different Torah
views that are relevant to people my age and my generation and went to the teffilin factory.
We did a lot of community service including English tutoring and building a road. We got the
real army experience spending a week on Gadna. There were also a lot of fun activities like
Camel riding, sleeping in the Bedouin tents, swimming in the Dead Sea and a lot more. We
went to Yad Vashem, ammunition hill, tunnel tours, the
Shuk
, swam in the sea on Haifa beach
and davened at the Western Wall. Kfar was an incredible experience and I’m so happy I got
to be a part of.”
